Going, make disciples...
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
– Matthew 28:19-20, NAB
Becoming Catholic
To be a Catholic is one of the most profound and joyful experience one could have in his or her life. To become Catholic is to recognize that Jesus calls each one of us to be his disciples. To become Catholic is, therefore, also our response to his call.
Recognizing that Jesus calls each of us at various stages of life, there, too, are various ways to become Catholic:
-
For infants. Parents who choose to share their faith with child may have their child baptized. For this, both parents are required to attend the Baptismal Preparation Program. Please call Fr. Edison at (585) 924-7111 to start the process of inquiry.
-
For children seven years old or older. Older children, reaching the age of reason, could benefit from the more mature treatment and sharing of the Catholic faith. We encourage that children who have not yet been baptized to consider the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults in order to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. For RCIA, please all Deacon John Payne at (585) 924-7111. For children who had been baptized but need to receive Eucharist and Confirmation, they need to go through the Parish Faith Formation Program and Sacramental Preparation Program. For the Christian Formation and Sacramental Preparation Programs, please call Anthony Klosterman at (585) 924-2800.
-
For adults. Whether baptized or unbaptized, adults who are interested in becoming Catholics and are in need of completing their Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation), need to go through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. At Saint Patrick’s Church, the period of inquiry is open year long, and, then, the formal periods of inquiry, catechesis and mystagogy begin in October until Easter. To learn more about RCIA, please call Deacon John Payne at (585) 924-7111 to start your exploration.
We are looking forward to hearing the word of God and breaking bread with you!
