Let us go forth, then, let us go forth to offer everyone the life of Jesus Christ. Here I repeat for the entire Church what I have often said to the priests and laity of Buenos Aires: I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.
– Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium 49.
To follow Jesus is precisely this – to be on the move and be like Jesus during his public ministry.
To follow Jesus does not mean standing in place or sitting comfortably.
To follow Jesus is to go the periphery, to bring and encounter Jesus there!
As His Church, we are centered on Jesus Christ. It is His heart that sets us to motion. First and foremost, we get actively involved in the liturgy, in the sacramental celebrations for it is here where we encounter Jesus is a unique and real way. Then, we get actively involved by promoting the values of the Gospel in our families. Then, in the parish through active involvement in parish ministries where we recognized our God-given gifts of time, talent and treasure. Also, we get involved in our local community and our work places, which are very same places where Jesus held his public ministry.
As Christians, we are light of the world and salt of the earth. As light, we bring out the beauty of the created world, and as salt, we bring out the goodness in peoples.
